Exporting Logs Failing!
Hi Ben, and all viewing...
I have just updated to the latest Beta version 6.76 Beta 11 and I am trying to export my logbook to a ADIF version 1 or 2 file, but when I do, I get the window up asking me to select dates to export, and it does not matter is I select the years, or a date range, for when I try to continue the software just does nothing, and if I try to click on any of the UcxLog windows it just displays 'Not Responding', and soon after the program exits!
I am running under Windows 7 if that helps, and I have tried re-sorting the logbook and this has made no difference.
Any Ideas?
Thanks
James (MD0MDI)

Re: Exporting Logs Failing!
Hi James,
I have just tried what you described, but for me it all just works as it should. After I clicked on "QSO -> Export -> ADIF -> 2.0", the selection window appeared. There I've chosen (from Years) 2010 and then simply clicked "OK". Then I was asked where I want to store the file. After confirming it worked about three second (this period seems to be critical, if one has more than e.g. 20,000 entries, this might take quite a bit on a slow system like mine (during which the program is not responding)).
But finally I got the success message:

So I'm pretty sure it's not related to the current beta version of UcxLog - perhaps really a problem with Winodws 7?
Then we'll need other users who could try that!

Hi James,
just trying with Win 7 Prof and found no problem, either with a whole year nor a single month. And also I could work with the program after the exporting. May be you did somthing wrong?

Re: Exporting Logs Failing!
Also checked here with Windows7 64 Bit SP1 and .Net 4.0 with no problem using an administrative user. Where do you have installed the binarys, where do you want to export and what kind of user you are using? Maybe it's a kind of insufficient write permissions on the directory you chose to contain the exports?

Re: Exporting Logs Failing!
I these a way to externally export or convert the logs, I have now tried every format and it fails all the time at the same point.
I do not get the screen up that asks 'where I want to store the file' it hangs before this point and after selecting the years.
I have tried all formats and the software is hanging all the time.
I am running x64 sp1 with .NET 4.0.30319.
I really need to export the logs for a DXpediition so that I can import them into another software to produce maps and contact data for the clubs website.

Re: Exporting Logs Failing!
Hi James,
If everything fails, I'm sure you can send your logs to Ben, who will export them for you into the desired export format, and send it back to you (or any other trusted user here
).
Maybe you should him the files *. ST2 enclose, so Ben can verify your settings. Perhaps you have a special combination of settings made, which is still unknown and could cause the problem?
You would then at least have the logdata and could further evaluate your DXpedition., while we (respec. Ben) can still search for the reason of error - as we do not know whether the problem is so simple that it can be solved quickly (but hopefully it is)?
The Mail-Address can be found here.

Re: Exporting Logs Failing!
Hi James,
Please send me the files from the log data directory (*.UCX, *.ST2) ZIP packed and tell me which period you tried to export.
73 Ben
Did you try to re-install UcxLog ?
Possibly your UcxLog.exe is damaged.
It's simple:
- Close UcxLog.
- Download UcxLog.zip again.
- Copy (and overwrite) all contained files into the UcxLog program directory.

Re: Exporting Logs Failing!
I found a fix, I right clicked the icon and configured compatibility and set it to windows XP sp3 and then tried again and it works fine, just to prove the point I then removed the compatibility settings and tried again and it then fails.
I am not sure what the compatibility settings actually do in the back ground, but at least it now works.

Re: Exporting Logs Failing!
James at what path did you install UcxLog? Maybe it is something like an UAC-failure? However it's something strange

Re: Exporting Logs Failing!
Hi James,
I understand that the "File open" dialog doesn't appear and UcxLog hangs at this point.
This dialog element is completely implemented inside Windows.
So I think it's a problem of your Windows installation because it works under all Windows versions on many other PCs.
73 Ben
By the way, UcxLog does NOT use .NET of Windows.
